In the Yellow River Delta, soil salinity is high, the land’s productive capacity is reduced, and few useful plants (food and medicinal crops and plants for soil improvement) are available that are suitable to that environment. To improve the situation, we will introduce valuable salt-tolerant plants from the home and abroad, then carry out breeding and other domestication activities to enable cultivation of suitable cash crops. At the same time we will research plant cultivation techniques to establish a bioremediation technology system in the Yellow River Delta which is an ecologically fragile zone. We will also investigate medicinal and other bioactive components, to improve the economic value of plants, and to provide a demonstration for application of new crops and plant products.
